Good Morning

March 31, 2011
Claire gets so excited in the mornings when she wakes up and someone comes in her room.  She is usually standing up hollering for someone to come get her.  No matter who walks in she get so excited and starts jumping up and down – she gets REALLY excited when she sees Colton.  I tried explaining to Colton that Claire’s bed use to be his bed – this led to him wanting to get in her bed… so I complied!

He thought it was so funny that he was "sleeping" in Claire Bears bed.

As you can see from the squinting, Colton does not like the flash on the camera!

I am so blessed that my mornings start with these two smiles!!

First Born babes

March 29, 2011

When I first found out I was pregnant with Colton I had so many mixed feelings.  The initial feeling was ShOcK!  Shortly after I found out my best friend was pregnant!  Going through our first (and second) pregnancy together was so much fun!  More fun than that is seeing how much our two first-born children love one another!

A good day

I will be the first to admit that I often underestimate myself as a mom – this has really been the case since adding a second child to the mix.  I am constantly reminding myself how hard it is to be out and about with two little ones and thus keeping myself from doing too much outside of the house.  My wonderful husband is constantly saying “ahhh Honey you can do it!”.  When he says this I often think, “he just does not realize how hard this is”, but all this time I think I was taking it the wrong way.  He was actually encouraging me and believing that I could do it, not saying that it is not that hard.  Make sense?  I know to some I must sound crazy, but when you have two children two and under who are on nap schedules (they like their sleep and momma like a schedule!) it is a daunting task to be out and about (in and out of the car) with them by yourself.  On top of that our “out and about” is usually an hour and half drive into the city.

On with my good day…

Claire has had a reoccurring cold and has been super fussy lately – on top of that she has been digging at her ears all the time!  She, just like Colton, is an early teether and is seeming to be a quick teether – 2 at a time (She just turned 10 months and she has 8 teeth)!  So I had chalked up the fussiness and the digging in the ears to teething.  After talking with a few friends and Chris’ great uncle who is an ENT specialist in NYC I thought it best to take her to the pediatrician to get her checked out.  My girlfriend Christine was off yesterday so late Sunday night we made plans to meet up at Chick-Filet after the doctors appointment – we could all have lunch and the big kids could play in the play area.

Of course I was not as prepared as I should have been yesterday morning, but I was determined not to stress out about the time.  I called and was able to get Claire into the pediatrician at 11:10, but I was hoping to make it sooner!  Sure enough we were at the doctors office around 10:30 (it is definitely a big deal for me to be early anywhere now that I am a mom of two!).  We were in and out of the pediatrician office in record time, about 30 minutes and with a good report none the less.  Claire only had a little ear wax build up and she was not happy about the pediatrician removing the wax, but I was relieved there was no ear infection.

We went to Chick-Filet had a good lunch and let the kiddos play.  My poor child is not too familiar with “play areas” in restaurants because we never go to fast food restaurants.  He was really timid so I had to help him climb up and then he mainly just stayed up in the top and played around – then when it was time for him to come down I had to go up and slide down with him.  Yeah, that would have been funny to catch on camera!  We stayed there about two hours – Christine and I small talked and just enjoyed one another's company while the two babies chilled in their strollers or hung out in our laps.  Afterward, I did a little shopping at Marshalls where my two were still as good as gold!

It may not sound very exciting to many, but for me, it was such a good day.  I was not exhausted and stressed out – I was able to relax and just enjoy a few hours out of the house.  The ride back was a breeze because both kids napped (Colton ended up sleeping until 6:30pm!) and I came home to a clean house because I picked up the night before – I hate coming home from an outing to a messy house!!

It was a good day and now I can tell myself – oh yeah, I actually can do this.  I can get out of the house with two little ones without losing my mind in the process!!

These two had a good time too!

Her last bottle

March 27, 2011
Claire turned 10 months old last week and it has had me in an emotional place!  I have been trying to look back at all of her milestones and ponder and remember each one!

She started taking a sippy cup around 5 months and we took the bottle around 6-7 months, but we let Papaw give her one last bottle the last time we stayed the night there.  They both enjoyed it very much!

Siblings

March 26, 2011
For the longest time I was afraid to leave Claire and Colton alone together in the same room.  He’s a boy and he is rough!  For the longest time I was constantly repeating “Colton!  Get off of her… she’s just a little girl, she cannot wrestle” as her face is smashed into the carpet.  He wants to hug and kiss her, but it has taken some time to teach him to be gentle.  He still is not big on her messing with his toys, but she is always “up in his business”.

In the afternoons I try to get to put them in the playroom together while I prepare dinner – sometimes it gets a little too quiet for comfort so I have to go and see what is going on.  A few weeks ago when I walked in I saw this.  It may not be a big deal to others, but it absolutely warms a mothers heart to see her babies playing together.

The Wonder of It All

March 22, 2011
"And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints" Psalm 89:5 KJV

Do ever just sit and ponder upon the majesty and wonder of the Lord?  I will admit that I do not do it near enough.  I know I am often in a mad hurry to get so much accomplished that I do not take the time to to admire all that the Lord has done around me (us).  I love that children see the wonder of the Lord - you do not have to teach a child to believe in God - they see, they feel that there is something bigger, something greater than them.

Last summer sometime Colton became ever so in awe with the moon and the stars - he still is.  Every time he would go outside he would look for the moon.  We could be traveling in the car and he would search out all of the windows finally exclaiming "ahhh Momma dere's the moon!".  Over just a few weeks I had gazed at the moon more than I had in years.  Having a toddler is teaching me to take time and enjoy, what may seem to be, the small things in life.  To look at all the natural wonders around us that the Lord has created for OUR enjoyment.  Whenever were outside (or even just looking out the windows) and Colton mentions the birds or the leave or the trees - Chris and I are trying to always acknowledge to him that these are the creations of God!  We want our children to always recognize His splendor and wonder and all that they see!

When I was thinking about this post this morning Caedmon's Call "Majesty" came to my mind, so I will leave you with those lyrics:

Majesty
Worship His majesty
Unto Jesus, be all glory
Honor, and praise

Majesty
Kingdom authority
Flow from His throne
Unto His own
His anthem raise

Majesty
Worship His majesty
Unto Jesus, be all glory
Honor, and praise

Majesty
Kingdom authority
Flow from His throne
Unto His own
His anthem raise

So exalt, lift up on high
The name of Jesus
Magnify, come glorify
Christ Jesus the King

Majesty
Worship His majesty
Jesus who died, now glorified
King of all Kings

So exalt, lift up on high
The name of Jesus
Magnify, come glorify
Christ Jesus the King

Majesty
Worship His majesty
Jesus who died, now glorified
King of all Kings

Operation: Ditch the Pacy!

March 21, 2011
Yes, I am THAT mom!  I have a 2... ahem, almost 3 year old who still uses a pacifier!  We have always been strict with the pacy, only allowing it in the bed (at nap time and bedtime - when he gets up he has to leave it in the bed) - with the only exception being church because nap time falls right in the middle of church.

I know that we should have tried to ditch the pacy a long time ago, but to be honest the time never seemed right and now I have just procrastinated and he is almost 3!  Most say that you should get rid of the pacy by two years old, but that just did not work out for us... you want to hear my load of excuses why???  Okay, so Claire was due one week before Colton's second birthday - we knew that we were going to have to move him to a "big boy" bed because we wanted to use his crib for her.  Make the adjustment to a new bed and whole new room for that matter stressed me to the max!  I was so worried (she came 11 days early) about moving him to a different room and bed.  He was such a good sleeper and I was so worried the move was really going to disturb his sleep.  Also, around that time we were wanting to get to moving on the potty training.  I knew that I could not throw too many new things at a two year old a once - having a new little sister in the mix was going to be hard enough!  So... we decided to make the move to the big boy bed - which was almost flawless and to also make the introduction into potty training, but even that we did not really master until a few months later.  I did not want Colton to associate all these new things and changes with bringing this new baby into the mix and thus cause him not to like her... silly???  I just wanted all these transitions to go smoothly!  So basically we picked one "battle" (big boy bed, new sister, potty training, etc...) at a time and now here we are with trying to ditch the pacy!

We, well usually my husband, gather up the pacifiers frequently to sterilize in boiling water - so today I did that - threw away a bunch and all the rest I poked holes in the nipples ... for now this is our preferred method instead of going cold turkey!  We will see how it goes!!  Wish us luck!

The Georgia Aquarium - Part 2

March 20, 2011
The Aquarium was so large and we took so many pictures that I felt it required two posts!

Ocean Voyager was the biggest and the last exhibit that we went through.  By this time Colton had a little snack in his system and had finally warmed up to the whole adventure.

This exhibit is a huge 6.3 million gallon exhibit.
I could not believe the size of the Manta Rays in this exhibit!

These are the only Manta's that you will see in an aquarium in the US.

Colton really enjoyed the window seats...
We had a hard time pulling him away...

I wish I knew more about my camera and thus able to get better pictures ...
I'm hoping for a photography class in my near future!

Colton loved the conveyor belt that took you under the large tunnel... unfortunately we did not take any pictures at this point.

At the end of the exhibit there is a huge viewing window.  By huge, I mean 23 feet tall by 61 feet wide!  Now that is huge!  Colton loved it... he went right up to the window and would follow the fish and sharks back and forth ... there were step for you to sit and watch if you did not want to sit in the floor.  Here are a few pics:

They were tired of me taking pictures!
This is one of my favorites... He was just enjoying the moment...
Why didn't I fix her shirt!?  This has bugged me to death!

She is a complete cheese ball!
One of the happiest babies ever!

Once Chris sat down to take a picture with them Colton thought it was time to wrestle... a typical boy!

 He loves his daddy!

Chris ask me what I wanted for my birthday and I said all I want is to go to Atlanta for the weekend and take my babies to the aquarium... so that is what we did!

Happy Birthday to Momma!
Next stop - the Zoo!
