Heaven & Sweet Innocence

June 26, 2013

Colton and Claire have finally put together that their grandparents are mine and Chris’ parents.  Just last week Claire said to Chris, “I saw your mom today”.  Instead of saying “Nana”.  It was so funny and so random.  If I mention something to Chris and say “your dad” and Colton over hears he will say, “your dad is Papaw”.   A few times – months ago – Colton ask about my dad.  He ask Chris and then later on ask me.  I guess he has never seen him or heard us talk of him and he was curious.  It was a very brief conversation and then we moved on.

My father passed away four years ago.  It is a tough subject – one that I prefer to not talk about very often.  I often remember the bad instead of the good and I prefer not to – so in order to not think about the bad I do not think about it at all.  I know… I know, probably not the healthiest thing ever, but that is how I have chosen to deal with it.  Last night though – Claire helped me in a way that only a child could.

Claire was painting with water colors as I was cleaning up after dinner.  The boys were all in the other room playing together.  Claire mentioned that she was painting a picture for her daddy and then ask me, “who is your daddy momma”.  I said, “Claire my daddy is in heaven”.  Then, just as sweet and innocent as only a child could be she said, “oh and Jesus and God are taking good care of him”.   She stopped me in my tracks.  I went over and sat down beside her and she repeated herself looking for my reassurance.  I held back the tears and kissed her sweet little head and said, “yes baby God is taking good care of him”.

So thankful for the hope of Heaven!

The Many Faces Of Colton

June 25, 2013

I just discovered these pictures…

This is how he occupied his time while we were in the pediatricians office.

Joy

June 4, 2013

It is 3:30 in the afternoon and other than to nurse Beckham this is the first time I have sat down all day.  I needed to catch my breath and return a few emails, but as I sit here I am fighting back the tears.  My heart is so full of the most indescribable joy… joy that only a mother can comprehend.

Five years ago today God saw it fit to make me a mother for the very first time.  Words cannot describe the joy that floods my soul when I look at this sweet face.

Kids + Iphone = Random Pictures

June 3, 2013

When you let your toddlers play with your IPhone you never know what you might find… it is very common for me to find silly pictures.  I love this set of pictures because Colton was apparently trying to help Claire get her face in the photo.

Sleep Habits

June 2, 2013

People often say “you are so lucky to have good sleepers”.  While I agree that Chris and I are definitively blessed to have children who nap and sleep good at night, it was not without a little work.  When people find out that all three of our kiddos nap and sleep good at night they usually ask “how do you get them to sleep so good”.  The funny thing is – most do not want to hear the answer.  Or once they hear the answer they think it is for everyone, but their child.

While in college I was SO fortunate to have the opportunity to be a nanny for a family of six.  At the time when I started they had four toddlers four and under!  The youngest two were twins.  At naptime the mom would take them to their rooms and lay them down, walk out of the room and the kids napped for 2 hours!  Twice a day!  I could not believe it.  I ask her about their great sleeping habits and she told me about Preparation for Parenting.  It is a basic WAKE – EAT – PLAY – SLEEP system that helps you in establishing good sleep habits and in the end happy babies!

On days like today when I have a million things to do I am eternally grateful that I was introduced to GrowingKids.org.  So as I am typing this all three of my kiddos (even my almost five year old) are down for naps.  Now I can catch my breath, have a few moments to myself and get some things accomplished like writing in my blog and entering Pampered Chef orders. Things that I cannot really do when the children are awake.

It breaks my heart when I hear moms say that they are so exhausted and their children do not sleep through the night.  It seems like more and more I am hearing moms tell me how they have to lay down with their kids to get them to sleep or just co-sleep all together.  I desperately want to tell them that life does not have to be exhausting and they too can have great sleepers!!

Doc Brooks

June 1, 2013
This little chick LOVES her Doc McStuffin doctor kit.  It is probably one of her favorite toys. She has been carrying it to the pediatrician every time we go.  Chris had an appointment with an orthopedists a while back – the nurse had a pink stethoscope and Claire honed in on it right away.  From that day on all we heard was “I want a pink stethoscope”.  So after a pediatrician appointment where she was ultra brave so Daddy bought her her own doctor kit.
